Printing on fabrics is not difficult, these guidelines will help you to get the best quality prints from your Roland Solvent printer.
Please note this information is based on our Roland VersaCAMM VS-640 and may differ from other Roland models.
Pinch Wheels
We recommend you use all pinch wheels where possible, this will help prevent the media lifting whilst advancing through the printer.
Edge Guards
Use edge guards where possible; in particular on soft lightweight fabrics.
Test Draw
We recommend performing a ‘TEST DRAW’ on the printer. This will show you whether all of the nozzles are firing correctly.
On the front panel select: FUNCTION / CLEANING / TEST PRINT
This will print a colour patch – if there are no obvious breaks in the pattern then the nozzles are fine.
Running machines with missing nozzles can be OK; however missing colours in the output can look unsightly and lead to work being rejected by your client!

Feed Direction Calibration
For printers that use the ‘Intelligent Pass Control’ this isn’t so critical (but advised). For earlier models that don’t have this, it is essential that you perform this calibration on your printer.
Feed Direction Calibration is crucial to prevent horizontal banding. Follow the following guidelines to set this up…
Perform the position correction of feed direction (alleviate horizontal stripes).
NOTE: Feed direction means the feed direction of the media/material you are using. Perform the correction adjusting to the media in advance because horizontal stripes are more likely to occur during printing when the movement distance of the media changes subtly depending on the media’s thickness.
Tensioning
Use tension bars where possible.
